He served as Fire Chief both in Morris and Bridgewater. Al and his wife, Lorraine, loved to travel whether by plane or ship, and visited many exotic locations together. Al was an active parishioner at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bridgewater, NJ, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, FL, and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Al was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary "Bette" Martz, and sons John Martz and Douglas Watkoskey.
