Alfred Louis Mercurio, 81 of Reading, formerly of Peabody died Thursday, April 30 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Everett on April 7, 1934 he was the son of the late Alfred and Eva (Moreschi) Mercurio. Mr. Mercurio was a graduate of Everett Vocational School. He was the former owner of Al Mercurio Tile & Marble in Peabody, where he had been a longtime resident. He was also a member of the Mass Street Rod Association and the North Shore Strokes Hot Rod Club. He was an avid hot rodder, boater and fisherman. Mr. Mercurio was the beloved husband of Patricia Ann (Chilvers) Mercurio. He was the devoted father of Lori and Alan Leland, of Reading, and the late Lisa Mercurio, of Peabody. He was the proud grandfather of Lori Ann and Kevin Briere, of Reading, Leslie Leland, of Reading, Alan Leland III and his fiancée Elizabeth D'Antonio of New York City, and Brian Leland of Reading. He was the great grandfather of Kyle and Rylee Briere, of Reading. He was the brother of Claire DeStefano, of Salem and the late Vincent DeStefano, and Anna Marie Kelly (deceased) and Bob Kelly, of Harwich; and brother-in-law of Carol and Joe Cersosimo, of CO, and George and Helen Chilvers, of CA. He was the uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Saturday at 9:30am followed by a funeral mass in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30am. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

Pat, Al was a good boss and a fine person. I am glad to have known and worked with him years ago. I am so very sorry for the loss of Al to his family. I shall keep you and his soul in my prayers. Again, I send my sincerest sympathy's to you Pat, and your family.
