Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Mar. 16, 2026.
Alfred "Al" Rossomangno, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 87 in
Bradenton, Florida. Born on February 1, 1939, in New York, New York, Al's life was marked by his selfless nature, loving heart, and a sense of humor that drew everyone into the joke.
Al's journey through life was as rich and varied as the gardens he tended with such care. He proudly served his country as a diesel and nuclear submariner in the United States Navy for over six years. He then continued a life of service as a firefighter in East Hartford, Connecticut, for 20 years, where his courage and dedication to helping others were evident in every call he answered. His commitment to seeing every job done well-in the Navy, as a firefighter, and at home-spoke volumes about his character.
He was a man of the outdoors, with a passion for boating, fishing, and gardening. Al's hands were rarely still, but there was always time and energy to gather with friends and family to eat, dance, and share stories and laughter.
Al will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Michelle Rossomangno, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of 52 years. His legacy will live on through his daughter, Theresa Dumark, and his son, John Rossomangno; his siblings Richard Mozzot, Patricia Paolillo, and Donald Rossomangno; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry forward his lessons of love and perseverance.
Al was predeceased by his brothers George, Robert, and Alan Rossomangno; his sisters Anita and Michele Rossomangno and Marianne Freeman; and his son, Anthony Rossomangno, with whom he is now joyfully reunited.
Those who knew Al would say he was the epitome of selflessness. His willingness to put others before himself was seen not only in his professional life but also in the way he raised his family and treated his friends-both lifelong companions and those he had only just met. Al's loving nature made him a pillar in his family, offering support and warmth in every hug and every word of encouragement.
Al's sense of humor was a gift that he freely shared, bringing lightness to even the most challenging moments. His sly smile and the twinkle in his eyes were instantly recognizable to all who were lucky enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Alfred Rossomangno, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest-a life filled with service, love, and laughter. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of those he touched, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to live each day with kindness, courage, and a touch of humor. Al's journey on this earth has ended, but the stories and memories he leaves behind will ensure that he is never forgotten.
A small, private gathering will be held to remember him in
Bradenton, Florida, and a Celebration of Life and burial will be held during the warmer months in East Hartford, Connecticut, per his wish to never return north in the winter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Alfred Rossomangno to Parkinson Place Center in Sarasota, Florida or Tidewell Hospice in
Bradenton, Florida.
