Alfred Hillary Womble, Sr was born on September 1, 1934, to the late Rev.
Wilfred Womble Sr. and Chaney Richardson Womble.
In his last days, he would say to anyone listening, "I've lived a good life; it's
time to go upstairs." Even if no one else was ready to hear those words, on
January 28, 2023, Alfred's request was heard and granted by the Lord, who
called him in those early morning hours and told him to rise and come on
home. At the blessed age of 88, he departed this life as the last living child of
seven siblings.
Alfred was educated in the Orleans Parish School System, Delgado
Community College, and New Orleans Beauty and Barber School. He married
Helen McMillon in 1956, and from their union, four children were born. He
was a veteran of the United States Airforce. After returning from the US
Airforce, he worked for the Housing Authority of New Orleans and Avondale
Shipyard as a welder. Alfred eventually started his own construction company
and worked for various companies, such as the Dorothy Lawless Funeral
Home and many residential homes.
Alfred accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age. He was baptized by Rev.
Johnson at Israel Baptist Church in New Orleans.
Alfred leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters: Sharon Denice
Womble-Davis (Lloyd Jr) and Converna Lynne Ray; sons: Alfred H. Womble Jr.
(Wanda), Keith Womble (Jacqueline), Kevin Womble Sr., Rory Michael
Jackson (Maria), and Gerald Lewis (Givanni). Twenty-two grandchildren, 30+
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters, his former wife
Helen, brother-in-law Rodney Dozier, sisters-in-law Dorothy Womble (Ralph R
Womble Sr, deceased), Katie Neason, Dorothy Morgan (Willie), and Minister
Patricia Johnson (James) Godchildren Pamela Bass and Trenise
McMillon, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Proceeding him in death were his parents Reverend Wilfred and Chaney R.
Womble Sr, brothers Wilfred Jr, Ishmael, Ralph, and Philip R Womble, Sr
(Virginia), sisters Joycie Y Womble-Dozier and Doris W. W. Lee (John), longtime, devoted friend Carol Wilson.

Hi I'm Ellen Savage I was Mr. Als neighbor for past years after Katrina.......He and my husband and I would sit outside under the tree or our backyard almost every week...just wanted to say he was a good person always tried to give us words of wisdom...we enjoyed drinking Taka and OJ.... sometimes he would tell you he can't see and then would walk up to our house as if he had 20/20 vision...he often would look at at tree from our back yard and say look like the trees are holding hands... and we knew he was changing on us when he kept saying I hear water running in his house and basically tore the house up trying to fix a leak that was not there...at any rate he will be missed greatly by me and mostly by his buddy Terry...and finally his words were before he toast... PEACE AND MANY BLESSINGS.
