Alfreda M. Nishan, 86
Merrimac - Mrs. Alfreda M. "Freda" (Violette) Nishan, age 86 of Merrimac, formerly of Lynn, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Portsmouth Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late H. Charles "Wagon" Nishan, with whom she had shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Madeline (Marcheterre) Violette. She was raised in Lynn, attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, and was a graduate of St. Mary's Girls High School, class of 1955. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Salem State College in 1959. She began her career as an Elementary School Teacher in 1959 teaching grade 5 in the Newburyport School System, and then continued to teach 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades for the next 37 years in the Lynn Public School System at the Harrington, Sisson, and Lincoln Thompson Schools, until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member and a past Recording Secretary for the Lynn Teachers Union, a member, and a past Sergeant at Arms of the Department of Massachusetts AMVETS Auxiliary, as well as a member and Past President of the AMVETS Auxiliary, Post 161, Lynn. She enjoyed gardening, rubber stamping, and camping for many years. She loved the theatre and music, especially bluegrass, and attending live performances by Sawyer Fredericks and EJ Oulette. Freda was devoted to her grandchildren, son, daughter-in-law, and her "faithful companion" Sid.
She is survived by her son Charles A. "Chuck" Nishan and his wife Laura Mancini of Merrimac, her four grandchildren Zane, Violet, Lily, and Magnolia Nishan, her sister Dianne Littlehale of Magalloway, Maine, her sister-in-law Barb Luby of Byfield, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joanne Hogan, and the sister-in-law of the late Clifton "Sonny" Littlehale.
Service Information: Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 9:00AM from the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway, Lynn, followed by a Memorial Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in Sacred Heart Church 571 Boston St., Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial visiting hours on Monday, March 17, 2025, 4:00PM-8:00PM.
