BEDER – Alice Mae, 98, of Seaford, N.Y. passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, due to short term medical complications. She was the beloved wife of Leroy Beder for 48 years prior to his passing in 1995. Alice was born in Brooklyn N.Y. on August 1. 1926, the daughter of the late Anna Oeding and has resided in Seaford, N.Y. for more than 50 years. Alice had a very interesting career. She had worked for many years at the U.S. Postal Service and then at Rheingold Brewery. Once she moved to Seaford, N.Y. she went to work at J.C. Penney's in Massapequa, NY as a sales person in their Home Décor Department, where she received numerous awards and congratulatory letters. Alice was a great gardener and outdoors person, always planting and trimming and keeping the landscape of her home beautiful. Aside from gardening, Alice was also a very gifted artist who painted numerous paintings which hang in many homes and churches. Her specialty was also painting plates for neighbors, friends and relatives for all occasions. At times, she would be working on three plates a week.
She loved her yearly family vacations in Montauk, and always was a big fan of fishing, fishing boats and light houses. However, her greatest love was spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Alice is survived by her two sons Wayne and his wife Nancy of N. Bellmore, Craig and his wife Suzanne of Islip, her cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Lynn, Kelly, and Steven, and her great grandson, Jake.
Alice's family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY (2 Traffic Lts. East of Rte. 135). A Religious Service will be held during the evening visitation at 8:30 PM. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM for a brief service at the funeral home. At the conclusion of the service the procession will depart for Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.
