Alice M. Dunsmore August 12, 1946 – March 13, 2025
The world grew a little quieter on March 13, 2025, as Alice Dunsmore, a woman who loved laughter, adventure, and a good story, took her final bow. Born in 1946 to the late James and Alice Brophy in Philadelphia, PA. Alice's greatest pride and joy was her family. She leaves behind her three daughters, each carrying a piece of her adventurous spirit: Ashley (Andy) Amoroso, Allison (Dan) Cosgrove, and Merry (Steve) Rossi. Alice's love and laughter live on through her grandchildren, Drew (Kelly), Kylie (Jack), and Riley (Reese), and her great-granddaughter, Alayna. She is also survived by her beloved stepchildren Kathy, Douglas, and Danny, as well as her nieces and nephews-Christopher, Terry, Heather, Conor, Shannon, and Lori-whom she loved as if they were her own. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her sister, Barbara; her brother-in-law, Bob; and her stepson, Ronnie.
Alice attended St. Cecilia's Grammar School and St. Hubert's Catholic High School where she formed lifelong friendships that she treasured dearly. After completing her education, Alice began a career as a Catholic school teacher before a chance meeting with her future husband, Ron, set her on a new path. Together, they opened their first restaurant, Gioco's, followed by Amelia's (the airplane restaurant) in Penndel, PA. Alice's entrepreneurial spirit led them to her dream location in New Hope, PA, where they created a popular destination along the scenic Delaware River. This venture included Pickles, a deli for breakfast and lunch, Allison's for fine dining and live entertainment, Shadows, a late-night disco, and The Playhouse Inn, a welcoming place to rest between all the fun. Later in life, Alice followed her passion for real estate, earning her license and working for a Philadelphia law firm, which ultimately led to a successful career in the Title Insurance industry. Her entrepreneurial spirit encouraged her beloved niece Heather to open her own Title company, H&H Settlement Services in Glenside, PA, where Alice thrived working side by side with her niece.
A true free spirit, Alice lived life on her own terms-boldly, unapologetically, and with a heart full of love. She was the kind of person who could walk into a room and instantly fill it with energy, humor, and an undeniable spark. She had a knack for making every holiday extraordinary. A friend of a friend was always her friend, her door was always open. She whole-heartedly enjoyed being with family and friends gathering around the table for game night. Alice looked forward to traveling to the beach, where you could find her with her feet in the sand and the waves touching her toes.
Alice's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her-a woman who embraced life fully and made every moment memorable. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Alice's extraordinary life, in the way she would have wanted-full of love, laughter, a few good stories, and, of course, a glass of wine. A gathering will be held at Beck-Givnish in Levittown, PA, on Sunday, March 23, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
