Alice Elsbernd, age 89, of Fort Atkinson, IA, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Stoney Brook in West Union, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. John's Catholic Church, 201 Oak St., Fort Atkinson, IA with Father David Beckman presiding.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Helms Funeral Home – Chekal Chapel, 201 E Main, Fort Atkinson, IA. Also, from 9:15 – 10:15 on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Alice Mary (Brincks) Elsbernd was born on April 30, 1935, near Festina to Mike & Clara (Bullerman) Brincks. She attended Festina Parochial school for two years. When the family moved near Fort Atkinson in 1942, she continued her education at St. John's school. Then, she attended high school in Fort Atkinson, graduating in 1953.
Alice married Andrew Elsbernd on August 25, 1954, at St. John's church and lived on the Elsbernd family farm. They were blessed with four children: Irene, Ivan, Gene, & Mike. They moved into town in 1980.
Alice was on the FHA Senior Housing board for many years, did housework for Father Ludwig and Father Salz, was a sacristan for the church, and served on the election board from 1999-2020.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, working with flowers, & playing cards. She also enjoyed watching sports especially the grandchildren, Chicago Cubs, & Iowa Hawkeyes.
She is survived by her daughter: Irene (Dave) Westendorf, her sons: Ivan Elsbernd, Gene (Ann) Elsbernd, and Mike (Jenni) Elsbernd. Brother and sisters-in-law: Evroul Beckman, Darlene Lansing, Alice Myers, Rose Lansing, Margaret Elsbernd, and many nieces and nephews. She has eleven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Andrew in 1999, her parents, sister Germaine Beckman, daughter-in-law Barb Elsbernd, in-laws Anton & Rosalia (Timp) Elsbernd, Gerhard & Marie Setter, Leonard & Rita Nolte, Leo & Helen Elsbernd, Wilfrid Elsbernd, Clarence Lansing, Leonard Myers, Virgilius Lansing, & Serenus Elsbernd, nephews and nieces.
