Alice E. Gruber (nee Krueger) age 92 of West Bend died peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Ivy Manor in West Bend. She was born October 7, 1931 in West Bend to William and Lidvina (nee Kroness) Krueger.
She was united in marriage to Andrew Eugene "Gene" Gruber on November 28, 1959 at Holy Angels Church. Gene preceded her in death on March 17, 1972.
Alice was very proud that she was able to raise her 8 children by herself following the death of her husband. She worked at various places including Gruber Tool & Die, Regal Ware and Bonnie Bell. She always enjoyed time with her family and loved babysitting for her grandchildren. Alice was an avid knitter and liked gifting scrubbies, scarves, mittens and other items to her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, cooking and playing bingo.
Alice enjoyed playing 500 Rummy and Rummy Royal with her kids. They all enjoyed a weekly game night of cards with mom. There were many days of visiting family and long rides in the old station wagon to the cabin up north.
Alice was very close to her sisters, Maude and Honey. She enjoyed spending time with Honey getting a burger and Beer at King Pin bowling alley in Campbellsport. She also enjoyed travelling to Arizona to spend time with Maude.
Alice is survived by her 6 children: Carmen (Mike Moser) Gruber of Slinger, Sherry (Dale) Carter of West Bend, John (Laurie) Gruber of Kewaskum, Paul (Barb) Gruber of Kewaskum, Ann Marie (Rodney) Wiedmeyer of Campbellsport and Charlene "Charlie" Gruber of Grafton, her son-in-law Gary Hansen of Campbellsport, 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her 2 sisters: Florence "Maude" Knuth of Glendale, AZ and Marie "Honey" Kidwell of West Bend, 2 sisters-in-law Mary Joyce Stutzman of Campbellsport and Darlene Gruber of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Lidvina Krueger, her husband Gene Gruber, her daughter Brenda Hansen, her son Darryl Gruber, her sister Dorothy Hackbarth and 2 brothers: Roger Krueger and Robert Krueger.
The family will greet visitors on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend from 11:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with Chaplain Richard Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Kewaskum.
