Alice Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by House of Law, Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Penn Hills on Mar. 16, 2026.
Alice Juanita Moore was born to Lille Belle Thompson and Thomas Thompson on March 4, 1935 in Clarksville, PA. She was the second of seven children born to Lillie Belle. She peacefully transitioned on March 12, 2026 at her home surrounded by family.

She was raised in Clarksville, PA and graduated from the Jefferson-Morgan Junior Senior High School in Greene County on May 27, 1952. During the summer months, she worked in her Aunt Minnie Kemp's restaurant in the Glenwood section of Pittsburgh. She met Virgil Moore during those summers and they were married on April 17, 1954. Their union produced four children: Sandra, Rhonda, Kimberly, and Virgil. Her husband Virgil, preceded her in death on February 8, 2008, Juanita was employed by the Pittsburgh Public Schools from 1967 until her retirement in 2022.

She held the position of Chief Clerk and was known for "running her schools." Her school principals trusted and relied on her. The teachers, staff, students and parents cherished her. In May 2019, she was awarded a Distinguished Achievement Award by the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education.

Juanita was a caring and very involved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed baking and was known for her cakes, especially her coconut layer cake, cheesecake, and sweet potato pies. Her cakes were one of the highlights of the Lillie B. Drake Family Reunions for many years. She was an active member of the First Emmanuel Tabernacle Church where she sang in the choir for many years and also taught Sunday School. She volunteered on the hot line' of the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh for many years and was recognized for her service. She also volunteered at the Glen Hazel Kane Community Living Center, leading praise and worship services for more than thirty years. The residents loved "Ms. Juanita" and she loved them more. Juanita once managed a thriving Tupperware sales business and many still own Tupperware household products that she sold or gave them. An avid fan of Rev. Al Sharpton, she regularly watched his show on MSNBC on weekends. Over the years she enjoyed vacations with her children, always looked forward to participating in the "Sister's Week" of activities and the annual Lillic B. Drake Family Reunion.

Juanita leaves to cherish her memory: sisters Anna Ramrattan and Jacqueline Sutton: brothers-in-love Rev. James Robinson and Raymond Sutton III: sister-in-love Suzanne Thompson; children Sandra Baker, Rhonda Johnson, Kimberly Francois and Virgil Moore; grandchildren Jamila Baker, Rahmel Francers, Rosalyn Johnson, Jocelyn Giles, and Wesley Johnson; great-granddaughters Alyse Giles. Jordyn Giles, and Trinity Potts Francois; sons-in-love John Baker and Vincent Johnson: grandson-in-love Kyle Giles; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends. Her children wish to acknowledge Roberta Zolkaski for all of her support during Juanita's illness.
