Alice E. Stone

Mrs. Stone was my third grade teacher at Crowell in 1990. I had just moved to Turlock and was attending a new school. She was the teacher in my life who helped me overcome shyness and I will always remember her for that. Her class was the place I learned to feel confident. She was demanding but very kind. I remember a class store where we could earn money to buy prizes like erasers and scented pencils. She had reading groups before and after school, and I attended her late reading group in the afternoon where she had us laughing, racing to be the first to look up words in the dictionary. I saw her picture on this obituary today and gasped, no - my teacher! I´m 44 years old and I felt like my third grade self for a minute. Thank you Mrs. Stone for being a benchmark teacher in my life who I will never forget. I am a high school teacher now and I am adding dictionary races to my classes as a tribute to her. My love and condolences to her family. I loved her too.
