I am heartbroken by the news of the loss of Alicia, one of the most remarkable human beings I have had the privilege to know and one of my favorite students of all time. She was a legitimate genius, one of the most brilliant people I have encountered in my 35 years as a K-12 teacher and college professor. As I recall, Alicia joined the Southwestern College newspaper when she was 14, was news editor at 15 and graduated from UCLA at 19. She was preparing to enter a doctorate program at an elite university at 19 when she had her accident.
Alicia was unfailingly kind, generous and empathetic. She was charismatic, movie star beautiful and a fun-loving teenager to the core. She was also sweet and lovable, that rare person who made you smile when you saw her enter the room.
My love and condolences to her family. This is an unspeakable loss for you and all of us.

My condolences to Alicia's loving mother, my former nurse colleague at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. Caring for your daughter over the years despite the outside pressures to give up on her attests to your character and devotion. Happy Mother's Day to you, cherish your sweetest memories of this child.
