Allan Jones, 62, of Victor, Iowa, passed away at his home on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Allan was born on February 7, 1963, in Grinnell to Richard James Jones and Mary Lou Johnson Kudej. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1981. Shortly after, he hit the open road, beginning a long and memorable career as a truck driver. He hauled for several companies over the years, including Hummer Trucking and Z Line, but he was most proud of his time pulling a cattle pot for Hendershot Trucking.
In the last 10 to 15 years, Allan shifted gears and found joy working as a farmhand for several local area farmers. Whether in the fields or behind the wheel, Allan was always happiest working hard and staying connected to the land and people he loved.
Allan had a lifelong passion for dirt track racing. He competed in both stock and open-class figure-8 races and was a familiar face slinging dirt at the oval track in Marshalltown. Even when he wasn't racing, he could be found helping at the track, often behind the wheel of the tractor, doing his part to keep the show running smoothly.
Above all, Allan will be remembered for his big heart. He lived by an open-door, open-phone-line policy, though it might take a couple tries to get him to answer. He was a great listener and was always ready to offer help, advice, or a good laugh, never with judgment and always with kindness. His easy smile and upbeat spirit had a way of lifting others, even on their worst days.
Allan is survived by his son, Colton Jones (Kelsie Martin) of Georgetown, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Lakilyn Jones, Zoe Lechner, and Maddie Lechner; his sister, Traci (Douglas) Dolash of Chelsea; and his niece and nephew, Ashley (Curtis) Rache and Dustin (Lauren) Dolash. He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, Paul Charles Jones.
