I am proud to have served aboard USS Albany (CG-10) during it's pre-commissioning detail in Newport, RI in 1968 through it's commissioning in Boston and ultimate home port in Mayport, FL. I was a Yeoman in the Captains Office and I am proud to say I was the first to announce Attention on Deck, when Captain Slaff reported to the PRECOM DET Office in Newport in 1968.I am saddened to learn of his passing and honored to have served under his command. Please accept my sincere condolences and those of my wife Pam. Sincerely, Gregory and Pamela Kane.

We were neighbors of the Captain and his lovely wife, Mary Lee, at the Provence in Naples for many years. We always looked forward to talking to him because he had led such an interesting life. A man of such accomplishment is rare these days and we count ourselves blessed to have known the Slaffs.

He was a great Commanding Officer on USS Davis DD937 where I was his Supply Officer. I learned a great deal working for him
