On Friday, March 27, 2026, Allen Lee Knudtson passed peacefully away at Ava’s Hospice House after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Allen was born in Sioux Falls on May 17, 1956 to Glenn and Nadine Knudtson. Allen attended the Sioux Falls Public Schools graduating from Washington Senior High School. During his youth Allen worked at The Galley restaurant mastering the art of making salads and then becoming a cook. He worked numerous jobs in Sioux Falls finally becoming self-employed in the commercial cleaning business until health caused him to retire.
Allen had one daughter, Shawna, from his first marriage. Shawna was the light of his life and he was the happiest when spending time with her listening to old vinyl records or playing in the park. Allen was married to Barb Mills on August 28, 2010 in Sioux Falls. Allen and Barb spent the last 15 years enjoying and supporting each other in life.
Allen is survived by his wife Barb; daughter Shawna, Asoka, OK; three grandchildren Shelby, Taylor and Colby Larson, Asoka, OK; step son John (Aimee) Quick, Kellogg, IA; two brothers Darwin (Sandy) Mesa, AZ and Randy (Barb) Sioux Falls; seven nieces and nephews, one aunt and numerous cousins.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Steve, sister Kristi and his grandparents Thelma and Henry Knudtson and Kathryn and Hans Wesche and several Aunts and Uncles and cousin Brian Wesche.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ava’s Hospice House for making our family’s journey a peaceful and positive experience. The staff there are true gifts from God.
