Allen McIntosh

Allen Andrew McIntosh passed away on January 22, 2025 at the age of 69 years, at Morristown Medical Center. He was a loving husband to Stephanie and a devoted father to Sarah and Kevin.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Allen obtained his Bachelor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo (Ontario) in 1977. He then obtained his PhD in Statistics at the University of Toronto (Ontario) in 1981. It was at the University of Toronto that he met and later married Stephanie. Both enjoyed singing, and were members of the University choir.
Allen pioneered statistical analysis of massive datasets, particularly in telecommunications. His work on common channel signaling (CCS) systems provided crucial insights into network data, improving performance and reliability.
As a Senior Research Scientist at Telcordia Technologies, Allen excelled in handling complex, high-dimensional data. His presentations at the Massive Data Sets workshop solidified his reputation.
Allen developed efficient algorithms for statistical modeling, including linear models using conjugate gradient techniques. He bridged theoretical statistics with practical applications, emphasizing their importance in complex systems like communication networks.
His contributions to data mining and applied statistics advanced methodologies for real-world applications, particularly in telecommunications. Allen's legacy continues to influence researchers and practitioners in statistics and data science.
Allen is survived by his wife Stephanie; his children Sarah and Kevin; his siblings Barb, Karen and David; and a large extended family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and the scientific community.
A memorial service will at held for Allen on Sunday March 23rd from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home located at 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany, NJ 07981.
