Allen Prater Obituary
Allen Prater, age 75 of Oliver Springs, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Parkwest Medical Center with his loved ones by his side. Allen was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church, was an avid car "hotrod" lover racing hotrods with his loving wife Gail. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a huge outdoor guy. Allen was a pretty simple man that loved the pleasures of life.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents Tommy Lee & Lilian Prater, grandparents, John Halk and Martha Bell Nelson, grandchildren Christopher Webster and Ashley Renee Ellis along with a niece Scarlett Brock and daughter-n-law Gayle Webster Prater.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Gail Brooks Prater of Oliver Springs, TN, children Tommy & Donna Prater of Oliver Springs, TN, Johnny Prater of Clinton, TN and Karen "Missy" & Brad Ellis of Oliver Springs, TN along with his "adopted" son Skeeter Clinton of Oliver Springs, TN. Grandchildren: Cassandra & Travis Witherington of Oak Ridge, TN, Gregory Prater of Clinton, TN, Jessica Ellis of Lawrenceburg, KY and Joshua Ellis of Oliver Springs, TN. Also, Aaron Roland of Norfolk, VA and Blaine Johnson of Oliver Springs, TN.
Brother, Ronnie & Gail Prater of Claxton, TN, sister, Darlene & Johnny Gilmore of Harriman, TN, brother n laws, Rodney & Janet Brooks and Michael & Beth Brooks. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Special caregivers Wendy Smith, Djo Mitchell, Linda Wilson, Madison Hedrick and Sheryl Moore that help out assisting the family with lots of love and care.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Sharp Funeral Home, with funeral at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. John Edwards officiating. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday February 3, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at New Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

I just wanted to tell y´all that Allen A.K.A GMC Papaw is what I call him, I really miss him so much, me and him had a really special bond and relationship with each other as he taught me some stuff that I now take an interest in, which is working on classic cars and all of that fun stuff, it´s hard for all of us to cope with this but I wanted to say this, he loved us all and as his nephew or "pujo" as what he calls me, he is always loved by us all and loved in our hearts, I love you Papaw.
