Allie Holley Obituary

Published by Congo Funeral Home - North Chapel on Jan. 15, 2010.
Allie Miller Holley, age 100, educator, historian, humanitarian, and longtime Wilmington resident, departed this life Friday, January 15, 2010. Allie was born in Clifton Forge, VA on February 14, 1909 and came to Delaware immediately following her graduation as a teacher from Virginia State College in 1935. As a teacher/educator Mrs. Holley was employed by Delaware State College and retired after many years at Howard High School. In her retirement, she remained active in her many civic, sororal, and community organizations that included Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Council of Negro Women, National Association of University Woman, The League of Women Voters, and the Howard High School Alumni Association to mention a few. She possessed an enthusiastic penchant for researching, recording, and maintaining the history, development, and protocol of record for the many organizations to which she devoted her time and resources. Mrs. Holley did not have biological children, but she was a mother and mentor to young people too numerous to mention. Her memory will be especially cherished by her devoted God-children Stephanie T. Bolden and Kenyon Camper, sorors Cheryl Trawick, Lozelle DeLuz, Janet Williams-Coger and Deltas locally and nationally. She was preceded in death by her sister Capanthia Miller. Liturgy for the departed, 11:30am, Thursday, January 21st at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew & Matthew, 719 N. Shipley Street. Viewing 9am-10:30 am, Omega Omega Service 10:30am, Reflections 11-11:30 am. Entombment Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Delta Outreach Education Center, P.O.
