Alma Bailey Obituary

Alma Bailey, age 77, of Hillsboro, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Highland District Hospital.

She was born the daughter of the late Frank and Vestie (Sturgill) Wright on July 22, 1948.

A devoted gardener, Alma loved working in her flower beds. From early spring until the season was over, she could be found outside, hands in the soil, nurturing blooms of every color and kind.

When she wasn't in the garden, Alma was likely at the card table. She loved playing cards and did so with enthusiasm and a competitive spark that made every game memorable. A ruthless card player in the very best sense, she played to win.

She also leaves behind her beloved and faithful companion, her special dog and dear friend, Gordon, whose loyal presence brought her comfort, joy, and unconditional love every day.

Alma is survived by her children, Marsha Gillman and Dena (Jason) Baker; grandchildren, Mindy (Aaron) Reynolds and Garrett (Kennedy) Gillman; great-grandchildren, Lillian Reynolds, Abigail Reynolds, Gentry Gillman and Beau Gillman; and sister, Judy Howard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Gary" Bailey, on Nov. 20, 2021; and siblings, Earl Wright, Bill Wright, Ollie Wright, Odessa Haven, Charlene Musser, and Donna Day.

In keeping with her wishes, Alma will be cremated and a gathering of friends and family will take place on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Turner & Son Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made in Alma's name to the Highland County Humane Society, PO Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
