My mother and Alma were very dear friends for many, many years. Alma was such a good woman and opened her home and heart to my family in happy and sad times and I am forever grateful. I have many fond memories of all of Alma's family that I keep in my heart and thoughts. My sympathy and love to the family at this time. In 1957 in an Arthur Murray dance studio in downtown Cincinnati, I met Alma and her sister, Shirley. Frequently in that first summer, Alma and her future husband, Charles Ace Combs, and I and her sister, Shirley Meyers, double-dated. We enjoyed Saturday evening dancing while accompanied by local bands at the Topper Club (next to Music Hall) and at the Ault Park Pavillion in Mt. Lookout, and at a neighborhood cafe, called Reisters. At this cafe, music was provided by a radio and a victrola.

This foursome was soon joined by Alma's sisters, Ruth, Alberta and Patricia and their future husbands, Cliff Traynor, Howard Woodward, and Don Weaver. Those dancing dates were a barrel of fun.

It did not take long until Ace and Alma became proud parents of 4 children and 21 nieces and nephews, and great uncles and aunts and great-great uncles and aunts to more children than I can count.

Alma loved her husband, Ace, and her children, and all of her nieces and nephews. She was kind to everyone she met. When she had opportunities or created opportunities to speak on behalf of poor citizens of Cincinnati, she was an accomplished extemporaneous speaker.
