Alma Reldon Smith McClendon, 97, of Weatherford, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Reldon, a life-long Parker County resident, was born October 25, 1917 to Starks N. and Dovie J. Smith in the Lone Star community. She and her sisters grew up where their grandfather Berry Franklin Smith established their homestead. Reldon attended Weatherford College, and graduated from North Texas State College. She taught at many Parker County schools, finally retiring from Springtown ISD. Reldon and her husband Phillip were married in 1942 while he was on leave from the army. After Phillip returned from the war, they made their home in Peaster, where they raised peaches, cattle, and their three children. Mrs. McClendon was a member of First Baptist Church in Weatherford, the 20th Century Club, Parker County Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women and the Weatherford Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and most of all taking care of her family as well as her many friends. Reldon is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip A. McClendon (1999); grandson, Jonathan C. McClendon; and sisters, Marjorie Briggs and Ima Dee Stevens. Survivors: Children, Phil D. McClendon and wife Jill of Weatherford, Judy M. Eidson and husband Jack of Whitt and Janet M. Curtis and husband Robert of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; grandchildren, Rhonda Hills and husband Harland, Nicole Snider and husband David, Dr. Jack Leigh Eidson, III and wife Kristy, Melissa Laneaux and husband Jason, and Robert W. Curtis, III; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral: 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel with Fr. John Phelps officiating. Visitation: 6-8 PM, Friday at the funeral home. Interment: Peaster Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Manna Storehouse or a charity of your choice.
