Alphonse S. Niese
MILLER CITY – Alphonse Niese, 71, of Miller City, peacefully passed away after his battle with cancer surrounded by family at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at his home in Miller City. He was born July 16, 1954, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio to the late William and Mildred (Langhals) Niese.
His survivors include three children: Chasity Nieto, Sarah Murrey and Joshua Niese; two grandchildren: Steven Nieto and Shaina Drake; and one great grandchild: Everett Nieto. He is also survived by Peggy Van Oss (Murrey), his former wife and the mother of his children, Sarah and Josh.
Other survivors include his brother, Peter J. Niese; and sisters: Joan Niese, Angie (Kevin) Champagne, Barbara (Randy) Runyan, Marie (the late Dan) Cass, and Carol (the late Don) Schroeder.
In addition to his parents, Alphonse was also preceded in death by two brothers: Daniel and Lawrence Niese; and a nephew William Runyan.
Alphonse was a lifelong farmer. He worked for over forty years at the Campbell Soup Supply Company in Napoleon, Ohio. Alphonse was an avid traveler and thrill seeker, from his time hitchhiking across Europe as a young man right up to his first skydiving trip on Oahu at age 68. His children are forever grateful to him for his example of dedicated hard work, compassion, curiosity, intelligence, and good humor.
The family would like to thank Bridge Home Health and Hospice for their attention to his comfort and care in his last days.
Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Perry officiating. Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 with a scripture service beginning at 3:45 p.m. and again on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 11 to 12 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Friends and family of Alphonse are invited to join his children following his funeral service at The Buckeye Club in Miller City to share a meal and drink in his honor.
Memorial donations may be made to American Farmland Trust, Doctors Without Borders, or The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
