Alphonso Clark Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home & Crematory - Holiday on Mar. 5, 2026.
Reverend Alphonso Clark was born July 14, 1936, to John M. Clark Sr. and Annie Nutall Clark in a rural southern community of Yazoo County, Mississippi. When he was six the family relocated to Mileston, Mississippi in Holmes County another rural community. This move was to a new house and 120 acres of rich farmland, as part of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal Program. The Clark family thrived in this new community. The Clarks were a devoted Christian family and Reverend Clark accepted Christ early in his life.

After attending Mileston Vocational High School at Mileston, Mississippi he followed his older brothers Fred and Willie Clarke and joined the military. He joined the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a paratrooper with several jumps to his credit. Upon discharge from the Military, he located to Chicago, Illinois and married Verdean Hodge. From this marriage came six children, Alphonso, Clark jr., Andre Andrew (Sherrie) Clark; Angus Maurice (Tene) Clark; Aloysius Keith (Bobbie) Clark; Angelo Levin (Patricia) Clark and Adrian Horatio Clark. Mr. Clark survived his wife Verdean Clark and five children in death.

It is to note that the deceased and a brother Reverend Edward (Bernice) Clark Sr. who preceded him in death, shared a calling to the ministry. They both were employed at the same time by Lanzit Corrugated Container Corporation of Chicago, Illinois as Printing Technicians. They delighted in spending hours discussing biblical and liturgical concerns. Reverend Alphonso was later employed by General Motors as an Assembly Line Supervisor from which he retired. He spent the next thirty years or so near Tchula, Mississippi with his beloved wife Yvonne Doty Clark and her four children from a previous marriage. He spent the last four years with his only surviving son Angus Maurice Clark and daughter-in-law Tene Clark in Hudson, Florida.

Reverend Clark leaves to mourn his passing, a loving wife, Yvonne Doty Clark, devoted son Angus Maurice Clark and daughter-in-law Tene Clark. A host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing, a beloved sister Mrs. Johnnie Jacques of Atlanta Georgia, loving brother john M. Clark, Jr. (Pearl) of Chicago, Illinois; a devoted and loving sister Mrs. Betty Burnett of Flint, Michigan; loving brother Bennie Clark of Merrillville, Indiana and a host of Cousins, Nieces Nephews and friends. He will be sorely missed.
