Alphonso Lacey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strong & Jones Funeral Home - Tallahassee on Jan. 21, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Alphonso Lacey.

Pastor Alphonso "Al" Lacey, age 73, of Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1953, in Lumberton, North Carolina, to the late Jimmy Floyd and Katherine Lacy Floyd.

Pastor Lacey was raised in Bladenboro, North Carolina, by his beloved grandmother, Annie Bell Lacy. He often spoke of her strength and the deep love she poured into his life. Not a week passed without him sharing fond memories of Grandma Annie Bell, who remained forever in his heart and spirit.

Pastor Lacey received his early education in Bladenboro, NC, and later graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx, New York. Pastor Lacey continued his education through college studies and various trade schools in both the New York City area and Tallahassee, Florida. He was a diligent, hardworking, and dedicated man who held many positions throughout his career, including employment with Citi Bank, retail services, photography, security, cable installation, and maintenance.

While living in New York City, Pastor Lacey met and married Iris Brown. From this union, three sons were born: Aaron J. Lacey, Alphonso Antione Lacey, and Allen J. Lacey.

Pastor Lacey later moved to Tallahassee, Florida. There, he met and married his devoted & lovely wife, Jackie Lacey, whom he loved and adored deeply. During this season, he joined Anointed Temple in Christ Church, where he answered the call to ministry. He became an evangelist, faithfully preaching wherever doors were opened, and later served as Co-Pastor and Pastor of Anointed Temple in Christ Church.

Pastor Alphonso Lacey also traveled to Kingston, New York, as an evangelist at New Jerusalem United Holy Church, Inc., where his family worshipped. In later years Pastor Lacey became a staff member, ministering on various online platforms. He was licensed as an Elder and Pastor under the leadership of Bishop Persavor Armour of New Jerusalem Church.

Pastor Lacey was known for his kind spirit, gracious heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. Above all else, he loved the Lord wholeheartedly. He was richly gifted with many talents that blessed the ministry and those around him. He was a skilled musician who played the piano, organ, and drums and an artist who enjoyed watching Bob Ross with his sons. Pastor Lacey had a love for martial arts and was an avid fan of Kung Fu movies. His passion for creativity, music, and martial arts was passed down to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Pastor Alphonso Lacey was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Coy Edward Floyd, Jimmy Jr. Floyd, and Betty Floyd Turner

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Jackie Lacey; three sons, Aaron J. Lacey (Walanya) of Saugerties, NY, Pastor Alphonso A. Lacey (Elder Regina) of Kingston, NY, and Sr. Pastor Allen J. Lacey (Deaconess Medjine) of Port Jervis, NY; two stepsons, Theodore "Tee" Chaires and Akil "Omar" Chaires of Tallahassee, FL; one sister, Myra Graham Wright (Victor), of Lumberton, NC; In-Laws: Aylwin Smith, Louberta Miller (Harvey), Marilyn Smith, Ann Walker (Virgil) and Frankie Fulton and a host nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be 12:00 (Noon) Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Anderson Chapel AME Church, Tallahassee, Florida 32304.

On behalf of the staff and management of Strong & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Alphonso Lacey.

To : The Family of Pastor Alphonso Lacey
The New Jerusalem United Holy Church Family extend their love and prayers to you on the loss of your loved one, Pastor Alphonso Lacey.
He will be missed by all. But death is not the end.
Through Christ we have victory and a sure hope of Heaven; the hope of Eternal Life.
When this life is over, we have a hope of Eternal Life. It is a confidence for all Believers who put their Trust in the Lord.
Pastor Alphonso was a true Believer,
who loved the Lord and trusted Him according to Proverbs 3:5,6 which says 'Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.'
Pastor Alphonso Lacey loved the Lord and stayed on the path and awaited his call. He fought a good fight. He finished his course. He kept the faith. We will miss him.
We are a praying church. If you need us at anytime, please feel free to call.
We love you and will always be praying for your family.
Stay on the path.
Blessings!

My prayers are with the family and friends of Brother Lacey. Though I never met him, I was close to several of his relatives who admired him immensely. I pray for their strength during this period of bereavement. We commit his soul to God and pray for the comfort of his surviving family.
