Alta Linton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones - Gallagher Funeral Home - Keystone Heights on Mar. 2, 2026.
Alta Marie Linton, 90, of Keystone Heights, Florida, passed peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Gainesville. She was born on May 31, 1935, in Huron, Michigan, to Leonard and Mary Gregory. She carried with her throughout her life the strong values of faith, family, and service that were instilled in her during her early years.

Alta worked as a hairdresser, forming lasting friendships while helping others look and feel their best. She later dedicated many years as a paraprofessional with Duval County Public Schools, where she made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless students. Even in the evenings, she continued serving others through convalescent sitting, offering comfort and care to those in need. Serving others was not just something Alta did-it was who she was.

Alta was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her cherished son, Henry Owen Linton Jr.; her granddaughter, Casey Schmidt; and the love of her life, Henry Owen Linton.

She is survived by her loving children: daughter Katherine Hayes, son Greg Linton (Stacy) and son Kevin Linton; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, with two more precious blessings on the way; her brother, Earnest Gregory; as well as many nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Alta found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved crocheting, cake decorating, and creating countless beautiful crafts with her hands. She was extraordinarily generous-always giving of herself, always ready to help others. She delighted in playing trivia games, especially if there was a chance to win. Her warmth, humor, and giving spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Her legacy of kindness, creativity, and selfless love will continue through the many lives she impacted.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Alta's memory to Haven Hospice at: https://havenhospice.com/donate

Services will be announced soon.
