Alta Joy Morrow

Alta Joy Morrow, age 82, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born September 12, 1936 in DeRidder, Louisiana to James Preston and Minnie Elizabeth (Brown) Bass. She married Raymond Frank Morrow on August 16, 1954, in DeRidder, Louisiana. Together they had two children, Alta Raye Morrow and James Allan Morrow. Soon after Alta Raye was born, they moved to Houston, Texas, where she lived until her death. Alta worked many jobs, but her passion was always working with children, especially those who were intellectually challenged. She retired from Aldine Independent School District where she worked as a special education teacher's assistant for many years. Over the years she's been very active in her church and always went out of her way to help those in need, be it children, teens, elderly or shut-ins. She loved singing and sang in a church trio in her teens, travelling around Louisiana singing in apostolic churches and continuing to sing in the church choir after moving to Houston. Alta's Bible and bedside notebooks are filled with handwritten pieces of paper with the words of old hymns and contemporary Christian songs that she sang throughout the day. Alta was a prayer warrior – a precious Godly lady who filled her little corner of the world with prayer, grace and good humor and will be missed by so very many. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 11:30 A.M.until 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Faith Tabernacle, 9525 FM 2920, Tomball, Texas 77375. Interment will be at Tranquility Oaks Cemetery, 22302 Hilderbrandt Road Spring, Texas 77389. Arrangements have been entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
