Lakshmi Ramakrishnan was born on January 24, 1924, to K. E. Sivaramakrishnan and Visalakshi, in Jamshedpur, India and passed away November 24, 2025, in Spring, Texas, at age 101.
She was the eldest of eleven children (having lost a brother older to her at an early age), studied up to eighth standard, and at the age of twelve, was married to P. L. Ramakrishnan, by whom she had three children: P. R. Lakshmanan (Dorai), Ganga Visalakshi (Vijaya), and R. S. Krishnan (Moorthy).
Lakshmi Ramakrishnan was a dutiful wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and held many other sobriquets in her relationship to others: Akka, Amma, Chitthi, , Bada Chitthi, Ammamma, Paati, Kollupaati, Athai, Periathi, Periamma, Mataji, Mami, Aunty, Grandma. Our mother's entire life was dedicated to her immediate and extended families, wishing nothing but the best for everyone, and her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces returned her love. She was quick of wit and repartee, welcomed everyone with a smile and greeting. Most of all she loved to sing happy birthday to everyone in the family, and the greetings were looked forward to and cherished by all. Her heart was large, and her life epic, and she has enriched all of us and all those who have met her beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by P. L. Ramakrishnan (husband), and Dr. P.R. Lakshmanan (son). She is survived by Ooma Lakshmanan (daughter-in-law); Vijaya Krishnan (daughter) and husband, T. R. A. Krishnan; R. S. Krishnan (son) and wife Swarna; K. S. Krishnamurthy (brother) and wife Lakshmi; Sathyabhama Iyer and Lalita Chidambaran (sisters); Grandsons Venkatram Krishnan and wife Shilpa; Mohan Krishnan; Granddaughters Rekha Lakshmanan and husband Huan Le; Shamaa Lakshmanan and husband David Gulley; Great-granddaughters Aditi Krishnan and Anika Krishnan; Great-grandsons Eshan Lakshmanan-Gulley and Rohan Lakshmanan-Gulley; and many nieces and nephews, and great and great grand nieces and nephews in India and overseas.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 9:00 am at Klein Funeral Home-Champions.
