Mr. Bouton was the father I wished I had. I was his son's best friend from 1976 until 2001. He was an awesome father to his son, Mark. I remember his stern, yet loving dedication to his son, always providing the best of everything that was required. Al taught us the importance of driving with purpose, being vigilant at all times. He taught us to be dutiful in our responsibilities to our team, our mission, our life. I never told Alton Bouton that I admired him. I never told him I cared about him. I never said any of the things that I wish I could now. I learned of his passing today, while searching for ways to contact my son, my best friend for my entire youth. I miss the days spent at Mark's house, playing basketball, ping pong, or whatever. His parents seeing to his every need. I now route for the Syracuse Orange, the Buffalo Bills.....teams Mark and his father loved. I long for those innocent days of our youth, and the solid foundation that Mark's parents gave to him. I love you Mark, Alton, Regina. I'm sorry I was selfish and neglectful in my ways. I wish I could have told you how much you were my second family. Rest in peace. Mark I will be here for you until our days are over. You are my brother.

Al was certainly a professional, and a person who I looked up to when I started coaching at IHS. His dry sense of humor was always appreciated and his knowledge of football and ability to articulate that knowledge was special. He was a perfect role model for young players and coaches. His temperament and personality was perfect for teaching Driver Ed as I took a lot from watching his classes. RIP Al as you will be dearly missed.
