Clutts, Alva, Marian , age 86, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday the Thirteenth of July, 2012 at Presbyterian Village North. She was born on August 16, 1925 in Central City, Kentucky to her parents, Alvin and Ruth Matherly. Alva was the oldest of 2. She married James Arthur Clutts in Central City, Kentucky on 09/01/1948. They had 4 children. She attended Western Kentucky University, The University of Kentucky, The University of Kentucky Law School and The University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1953 with a bachelor's in History, Masters in Business Administration and PHD in Economics and Statistics. She was a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas for 60 years. She was the first woman to have top secret clearance at Carswell Airforce Base, the first female comptroller of Texas Instruments and an Associate Professor in The Cox School of Business at SMU for 14 years where she was a key partner in developing "The Core Curriculum" course of study for SMU. Alva was a member of University Park United Methodist Church. Alva was also a member of several organizations that she greatly enjoyed being a part of: Kappa Delta Sorority, Dallas Woman's Club, Dallas Opera Guild, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Arboretum, Architects Wives, First Friday Club, and Wesley Rankin Community Center. She was a former chair of the Administrative Board of UPUMC, enjoyed reading, classical music, travel, and loved people. Alva will be remembered by her loving husband and their children: James Arthur Clutts Jr. and his wife Karis Adam Clutts of Dallas, Texas, Mary Alva Clutts and her husband Timothy Scott Gaumer of Oakland, California and John Richard Clutts and his life partner, Dr. Sami N. Arslanlar of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by 6 Grandpuppies. She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Ruth Matherly, her brother Charles Hinton Matherly and her son Jeffrey Matherly Clutts. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Alva at 11:00am Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at University Park United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday at Restland Funeral Home
