Alva Jean Boyd Edmiston-lovingly known by many names, most famously "Scooter" and "Moo"-was released from her earthly body and reunited with Jesus on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Odessa, Texas, at the age of 82.

Born in the family kitchen on April 2, 1943, in Blooming Grove, Texas, to Alva P. Boyd and Imogene Watkins, Scooter grew up tough, determined, and unapologetically herself. She became the first woman roustabout in the West Texas oilfield, paving the way in an industry where women had not yet been seen.

Over the years she wore many hats-working at a bank, Gulf, and Chevron, and later as a substitute teacher-but it wasn't until her fifties that she found her calling as a jailer for the Ector County Sheriff's Department where she proudly retired from. Through it all, her proudest titles remained mother, grandmother, and child of God.

Moo loved the outdoors, the desert heat, and especially Terlingua and Big Bend, her soul's happy place. Moo passed down her love of dancing and taught her kids and grandkids to two step and waltz (though she refused to ever learn the Cotton-Eyed Joe), to shoot, work a ranch, work hard, build cairns, and how to use your God given hard head, for better or worse.

She lived by her own rules-"Do as I say, not as I do"-and never took nonsense from anyone. Fierce and funny, she brought countless people, including her own family, to the Lord. Even through a lengthy illness, she never lost her spunk or her fire.

Moo is survived by her children, Sherry Roy and Cary (Todd) Turner; her sister, Sandy Boyd-Dixon; her grandchildren, Matt and Morgan Nolan, Tori and Cameron Urano, and Zach and Kendra Nolan; her great-grandchildren, Cason, Hadley, James, and Jett; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and chosen family who were better for having known her.

Her life was proof that toughness and tenderness can live in the same soul, and that doing things your own way can leave a legacy of strength, laughter, and faith.

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences may be sent online to the family at Acreswestfuneral.com
