I can’t say I really knew Alvaro, but it’s great to read the comments here from those who did, and know that his life was good.
Alvaro was my first friend in elementary school. We both lived in rural parts of Bakersfield, so the bus would pick us up at our respective homes, rather than a proper bus stop. We would sit together every day and draw comics in our notebooks. My character was called Power Man. Alvaro had Ninja Star.
Alvaro gave me these ninja figurines, which I’ve kept for over 30 years.
I think about Alvaro a lot, and I’m sad that the one time I thought to look him up online, I found this page.
Godspeed, my friend.

Al and I worked together in Palmdale Ca. about 2017. I recall he was a great coworker and friend who treated everyone with respect and was fair. Al embodied the American dream. I met his wife and immediately identified them as a hard working power couple, so in love, and with boundless opportunities. Al took great pride in his work and volunteer organization's. It was clear to me that he enjoyed servant leadership. We liked to go to Popeyes chicken for lunch and had good times talking and joking around. He was pretty serious most of the time but also knew how to laugh and have fun! I recall when he got the tragic diagnosis; he faced it with amazing courage and faith! I moved away shortly thereafter but often thought of him and prayed he was doing well. Sadly, I just learned of his passing. We can’t understand why some people are taken early but, as believers, we can celebrate knowing we will see them again in heaven. My heart and prayers go out to his family, friends, and coworkers!

Alvaro and I were in the same graduating class of `05. High school wasn´t the easiest for me, but Alvaro was always kind and would chat to me. He was highly intelligent and a real stand-up guy. I´m glad I knew him. I know we will chat again one day in the hereafter. Rest in peace, buddy.

I met Alvaro at Cal Poly during my freshman year back in 2008. I don’t remember how we started talking but when i mentioned i was from Bakersfield, he laughed and said he was from a neighboring town. I would always mess with him saying Bakersfield was better. One time i was really wanting to go home but for some reason or other I couldn’t. He offered to take me during a holiday since it was on his way home. I was so happy. After that he promised he could take me whenever he went to visit his family. He was such a kind guy. Everyone spoke highly of him. I always felt like he had that kind of brother feeling. May God keep you in his embrace.

"I met Alvaro (Al) and Azucena (Susie) back in 2014 timeframe when I joined the Lockheed Skunkwork team. I can´t even begin to tell you how Al and Susie have impacted my wife Lori and I lives. As we got to know each other, we quickly had that special bond as we had similar backgrounds with our families that work in the heart of California´s agricultural communities. A days Hard work, was taught in our families early on and I know it built the foundation of Al´s success. Growing up on a ranch I was taught early on by my grandfathers who would always tell me...you want something? Work hard and earn it! I definitely saw that in Al and his path to where he got in life is a testament to lots of people here today who guided, cared and love him. And Al´s influence on others was just as impactful...you don´t have to look very far...his younger brother Jesus followed in his footsteps working at Lockheed Martin Skunkworks, his dear friends Ivan, Mellissa and Ritchie are just name a few who he was a role model and mentor for. I believe GOD has a devine plan for all of us and Al got the calling to heaven. It hurts losing a loved one and a dear friend, but something my dad always told me...losing someone in your life causes sorrow and to help ease that pain try and think about a happy time with that person and share it with others. I´m sure all of us have many good happy stories that you could share about Al. Mine is during the Christmas season, when Lori and I would have our family and friends over to our house for a holiday White Elephant party. It was always fun...Susie was notorious about always trying to hang her stocking along with our 7 grandkids ones by the fireplace...and I remember one year, Al and Susie were the last ones to leave. It would just be us four around our small kitchen table just talking about life and it just warmed Lori and I hearts to enjoy their company. It was an honor and pleasure to have known Al and I know he´ll always be looking down upon us from Heaven...until we meet again hermano!"
Lori and I will ALWAYS be here for you sweetheart and we love you more than you know! Your friends always Cas and Lori

Álvaro, I met you during your first year at Cal Poly. I still remember seeing your name on the list of Summer Institute participants. You were full of life and ready to tackle your dream of becoming an engineer. I am so sad to see you go. My deepest condolences to your Cal Poly sweetheart, your beautiful wife, Susy, and to your family. Rest in peace, friend, rest in peace.
