Alvera Johnson

1957 - 2026

Alvera Elaine (Lewis) Johnson passed away peacefully on January 30th, 2026, after a brief illness, at the age of 68 in Seattle, Washington.

Born May 1st, 1957, to Mildred Walker in Gary, Indiana, Alvera was a free spirit from the very beginning. As a young girl, she developed a deep sense of wanderlust while living with relatives throughout the East Coast. In her teens, she fearlessly moved to East Anchorage, Alaska, to be closer to her mother, Mildred (known by many as Mom T or Tina).

At East Anchorage High, she sported a bright red afro that earned her the nickname "Blaze," and got in more than her fair share of scuffles standing up for friends and worthy causes. During those years, she formed a lifelong bond with the Berry family, who became her cherished bonus family. After graduation, she moved to Hawaii to study business at Leeward Community College, where she excelled in accounting.

Alvera ventured to San Pedro, California, where she met James Rufus Johnson while working at the National Beverage Company. They married and welcomed their daughter, Alysia, the following year. The family moved to the Pacific Northwest when James was stationed at Fort Lewis, and twelve years later, they welcomed their son, Jasper. Though Alvera and James later went their separate ways, they remained close friends throughout her life.

Alvera held many jobs, but her proudest professional accomplishment was her 23-year career with Puget Sound Energy as a Customer Support Specialist. Her humor, honesty, and refreshing candor became a hallmark of her service, and the friends she made on her team were a tight-knit crew who shared laughter, respected her straightforward style, and made the long night shifts brighter.

She loved football (especially her Seahawks), bingo, backyard cookouts, and soaking up the sun whenever she could. She was a loyal friend, a loving mother, and a devoted daughter. Above all, she was incredibly proud of her children and the adults they became.

Alvera is survived by her mother, Mildred Walker; her children, Alysia (Jess) Johnson and Jasper Johnson; and her grandchildren, Kurt and Kadie Winn.
