Alvin “Al” Gaston Hester Jr., 74, of Bladenboro went to his eternal home on Monday, March 4, 2024, while at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton. He was born in Bladen County on August 8, 1949, to the late Alvin Gaston Hester and Lizzie Mae Cain Hester.
Al worked for the Postal Service for 26 years and worked with the NC Welcome Center in Robeson County. He was a devoted and compassionate man who took great care of his family and loved to have a good time. Everyone always enjoyed his friendly disposition and his witty conversations. He enjoyed playing tennis and sitting on his porch watching the hummingbirds and listening to nature. Al’s presence in this life brought much love, joy and laughter that will be treasured always in the hearts of all that knew him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Sally Lynn Hester, sisters, Arbutis Pittman, Evelyna Pait, Jeanette Ross and Elizabeth “Libby” Hester Libby.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Lee Hester (Janet) of Bladenboro, Jason Hester (Channon) of Leland, daughter Kelly Durden (George) of Tar Heel, two sisters Doretha Edwards (Curly) of Bladenboro and Joanne Johnson (Larry) of Burgaw, six grandchildren Savannah, Logan, Lukus, Asa, Christopher and Trey and three great grandchildren Walker, Lilli Bess and Braxton.
The family will receive friends from 4-5 pm on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 pm at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins, 800 N. Main St. Bladenboro, NC 28320.
