"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
II Timothy 4:7-8
Remembering a Beautiful Soul-Our Beloved Sister, Sister-in-Law, Aunt, Cousin, Resident, Friend
ALYCE ALEASE LINDA CHAMBLISS peacefully entered into eternal rest on the evening of Friday, December 26, 2025, at Greensville Health and Rehabilitation in
Emporia, Virginia, surrounded by her immediate family.
Alyce-affectionately known as "Linda" by her family and those who knew her from childhood-was the fifth of six children born to Preston Chambliss and Alease Hawthorne Chambliss in Greensville County,
Emporia, Virginia. She was the beloved baby sister of Shirley, Vera (Nancy), Mary Louise, Preston (Junie), and Reginald, all of whom, along with her devoted parents, lovingly cared for and protected her throughout her life. Linda's father, Preston, tragically passed away in an accident in January 1970.
Due to health challenges, she was unable to attend the public schools of Greensville County; however, she was surrounded by a family who ensured she was taught life's survival skills, nurtured with love, and included in meaningful experiences. Linda traveled extensively with her family to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, and other destinations. She was especially cherished at the annual Chambliss Family Reunions held each Memorial Day weekend where family members from near and far gathered to celebrate together.
During her childhood and young adult years, Linda was embraced by her neighborhood community. Everyone was her caregiver, her protector, and her friend. Whenever services or opportunities became available, her mother, Alease, would call Mr. Davis' Taxi, and off they would go. Her sisters-Shirley, Vera (Nancy), and Mary (Louise)-also proudly served as her personal "taxi drivers" while growing up.
Beginning in 1993, Linda resided in several group homes, including Petersburg Training Center (1993), Low Ground Visions (1999), Mrs. Cynthia Batts' Group Home in
Emporia, Virginia, and later Arch Support Residential Services in Emporia, under the care of Mr. Anthony Archer beginning in 2014. Following illness and hospitalization, she transferred to Greensville Health and Rehabilitation in 2024, where she remained until her passing.
Linda was a lifelong member of Little Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was baptized in the late 1950s and attended faithfully with her parents from childhood into early adulthood. She and fellow residents from her group homes enjoyed attending Little Shiloh's annual church picnics whenever possible, delighting in afternoons filled with food, fun, and fellowship.
Alyce was preceded in death by her father, Preston C. Chambliss; her mother, Alease Chambliss; her sister, Mary Louise Wall; her brother, Preston V. "Junie" Chambliss; one niece, Kathalene Givens Meekins; two nephews, Preston "Jerry" Givens, Sr. and Preston "Man Man" Chambliss; four brothers-in-law, Herman Givens, Othel Sparks, Frederick D. O. Black, Sr., and Odell Wall; and two nieces-in-law, Nikki Chambliss and Deborah Wall. All of her aunts and uncles also preceded her in death.
Alyce leaves many cherished memories by her sisters, Shirley Chambliss Sparks and Vera "Nancy" Chambliss Black; her brother, Reginald Neely; three sisters-in-law, Shirley "Bessie" Chambliss, Cynthia Cowan Neely, and Nannie Wall; and one brother-in-law, Major Hicks. She is also survived by eleven nephews: Herman Givens (Joylynn), Tracy Givens, Anthony Wall, Ronald Wall (Olivia), John Wall (Sherry), Linwood Wall (Saeeda), Tracy Chambliss, Anthony Chambliss, Frederick D. O. Black, Jr. (Lucretia), Reginald Neely, Jr., and Amon Neely; six nieces: Judith McCaskill Robinson (Warren), Myra Saylor, Ramona Clarke (Gregory), Sharon Chambliss, Alina Crumpler (Tyrone), and Chere Vassell (Patrick); along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and two very special angels, Myra Saylor and Anthony Archer.
