Alyse Edgerton Jones, APRN, FNP, 83, of
Provo, Utah, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 15, 2026.
Alyse was born on July 26, 1942, in
Kansas City, Kansas and raised by her loving parents, Bea Firquain and Jim Edgerton. During her childhood, her family first moved to Tucson, Arizona and later to Los Angeles, California. She shared a close bond with her older brother, Wayne, and her cousin, Linda. As a child, Alyse loved to climb trees and play "cops and robbers" with Wayne-against her aunt's protests that such games were "not ladylike."
Alyse attended Brigham Young University, where she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During summer break, she met her future husband, Edward Jones, originally from Los Angeles, California. They were soon engaged and were sealed in the Los Angeles temple on June 6, 1964. An exceptional student, Alyse went on to earn a Bachelor's of Nursing-an extraordinary accomplishment, especially while raising eight children. Her commitment to education and her faith were an example to her family.
Alyse worked for twenty years as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the newborn ICU at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Her colleagues remember her as a hardworking, dedicated NICU nurse and a trusted nursing educator. She taught courses for doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals throughout the intermountain region, including certification in the very complex and delicate techniques of newborn resuscitation and CPR. She worked in perinatal outreach education, planning conferences and arranging teaching visits to many hospitals in Utah. Alyse was also part of the maternal/newborn healthcare team for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a service missionary, she taught nursing skills in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Alyse's life was deeply rooted in faith. Her dedication to living the gospel was evident through decades of service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later in life, she and Edward served a two-year mission together in Puerto Rico and Curaçao, strengthening their shared commitment to service and love for people around the world.
Alyse lived a creative life. She loved reading, dancing, writing poetry, painting, singing in the choir, playing the piano, and tackling solitaire and crossword puzzles. She delighted in words-often wielding obscure ones to ensure victory at Scrabble. She enjoyed cooking and experiencing eclectic foods and flavors from around the world, but her family will always smile at her particular love of gourmet popcorn and her fondness for eating raw lemons.
Alyse faced hardship with resilience, choosing optimism even when it was not easy. Her ability to remain kind, encouraging, and hopeful in difficult moments left a lasting impression on her family and friends.
Alyse is survived by her devoted husband, Edward; her children, Marci (Tim), David (Mindy), Aaron (Kristina), Shelley, Brian, Laura, and Cathy (Matt); and her beloved eighteen grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents; her brother; and her first child, Stephen (Melissa), whom she carried in her heart throughout her life.
