Amanda Charlene Briggs

Amanda Briggs, 64 years old, died at home in Chapel Hill, NC on March 9, 2026 after a long illness. She was born on June 16, 1961 to Charlotte Soloman and James Bernell Briggs in Danville, VA. She is survived by her life partner of 40 years, Cindy Massey, and several cousins. She will also be missed by her many long term friends and relatives.

She was loved in many communities, including her church, birding groups, UNC and many more. Her gentle nature and lovely smile belied her strong will and staunch dedication to what she believed in.

She retired from the School of Public Health, Health Promotion Disease Prevention in 2015, after a long career at UNC-CH. After retirement, she developed a passion for political activism and became involved with Neighbors on Call, ultimately becoming a chapter leader, working to ensure that candidates addressed issues that were important to the local population.

She loved singing in the church choir at Chapel in the Pines, where she was a founding member.

She was always passionate about wildlife and birds - she loved birding, even if it was just in her own backyard, but loved traveling to other countries (and within the US) to increase her life-long bird list!

There will be a memorial service for Amanda on Saturday, March 28 at 3pm at Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill.
