Amanda Cox Obituary

AMANDA SUSAN COX of Pittsburgh, age 68, Amanda moved from this world to the next on the evening of Thursday, March 13, 2025, as the lunar eclipse came into full view over the Monongahela River. Her soul left a shadow on the moon as it passed: a fitting farewell to a beautiful life. She went surrounded by her sons and daughters-in-law, comfortably and peacefully.
She is survived by her two sons, Brent and Graham, her sister Ann, and dear friends too numerous to name from all corners of the earth.
Mom was a wanderer. She adored our vast and disparate world, and wanted to see all of it, and very nearly did. She took something from each of her journeys and tried to live a life informed by those discoveries. She taught Montessori for many years, instilling in her students her own awe at the beauty of nature and the value of community. She loved to garden and to steward the earth in whatever way she could. She was an avid yoga practitioner and Ayurvedic instructor. She baked the most beautiful breads and pastries you've ever tasted. Most importantly, wherever she went, she made kinship, found family. I have no doubt the same will hold true in the place beyond this one, and that when we arrive there, we will find her laughing amidst a throng of friends and fellow travelers. Rest easy, Mom. You are, were, and will always be loved.
Amanda was laid to rest in a quiet, private ceremony at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park in Verona, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Amanda's memory to the West Virginia Land Trust, PO Box 11823, Charleston WV 25339, www.wvlandtrust.org.

Amanda-my precious, beloved, dearest friend.
The kind of friend who became part of my inner world, my stories, my seasons... that´s a rare, sacred connection.

I can´t believe you´ve moved from this world to the next so soon.

You were kind-hearted, intelligent, radiant, fun, extraordinary.
A woman who embodied freedom-who lived with depth and beauty in every breath.
You lived a beautiful life.

You taught me so much.
You were the one who introduced me to Winter Solstice celebrations-your sacred tradition for almost 40 years: family, friends, music, food, poetry, bonfires, smiles, hugs and magic.
Since we met, one of the highlights of my Decembers has been receiving your Winter Solstice invitation.
You made winter feel warm.

I am heartbroken.
I miss you so deeply.
When I close my eyes, I can still smell your scent, feel your hug.
I can hear your laugh-bright, wise, full of soul.
You illuminated our talks.
You enriched my life in ways I can never repay.

I am so grateful our paths crossed.
You changed me.
My heart aches, but it also celebrates you-your life, your essence.
A life of authenticity, courage, and beauty in every sense.
I will carry you with me.
And I will miss you, always.

When I think of Amanda, I picture her in motion - running, walking, or driving - and now I imagine her spirit floating in perfect, painless joy. Wherever she is, her memory will continue to inform and inspire her sons and all the friends who have loved her. I´ll treasure my memories of her intelligence, her wit, her wonderful cookery, and above all her deep love for Graham and Brent.

I would run into Amanda at various times and places, and was always happy to see her. She is gone too soon.
