Born Amelia Elizabeth Blevins in downtown Cullman, AL on Sept 15, 1938, she was the second oldest of the seven children of Troy and Lena Crauswell Blevins. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1956 served as Miss Labor Day the same year. She went to work for Southern Bell Telephone in Birmingham as an operator where she met her husband of 65 years, E. F. "Frank" Jones.
She stayed home to raise their two daughters and the menagerie of pets that she adored. She loved all the dogs, cats, hamsters, and white mice that shared her home throughout the years but was also known to frequently rescue and rehabilitate any number of wild critters-from a rabbit to an owl, a chipmunk, a couple of squirrels, and even a skunk. She loved to feed and watch the birds that lived around her yard, especially the blue bird families that nested twice a year in the boxes she faithfully cleaned out after each brood. She grew beautiful flowers, especially her roses, and loved to garden and travel. She was known for her delicious homemade fudge, divinity, pecan and coconut pies, canned tomatoes, and her sweet and spicy pickles.
She stepped through the gates of Heaven early on the morning of January 13, 2023 at Hospice Family Care of Huntsville with her daughter holding her hand. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, and two of her brothers, Sammy Blevins and Allen Blevins. She is survived by daughters Deborah Thompson and Donna Burnett, and her beloved Yorkie Toby. Fearless, strong, caring, and resourceful, she faced each challenge with courage and practical wisdom. She will be greatly missed as she leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion for others.
