RENSSELAER - Amelia K. Nabozny, 97, of Rensselaer, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025.
Born February 18, 1928, in Stockport, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Marian and Anna (Bania) Krasnoborski. She grew up in Hudson, N.Y., and graduated from the Samaritan School of Nursing in 1949. She was the recipient of the Florence Nightingale Award at her graduation for her exceptional nursing practice. Amelia devoted her life to raising five children while also pursuing a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She concluded her nursing career at the Fireman's Home Long Term Care Unit in Hudson retiring in 1985.
After retiring, she and her late husband, John, lived in Kinderhook for many years, where she was an active member of St. John The Baptist Church. She participated in the Church's Elves, and was a Eucharistic Minister at Barnwell Nursing Home.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, John, in 2002; her son-in-law, Robert Alnutt; her sisters, Jennie Maiewski, Rose Thomas, Mamie Hester, Sophie Thorpe, Helen Kitchie; and her brother, Clarence Krasnoborski.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Paul) Wattenmaker, Judy (Dave) Gray, Jack (Gerry) Nabozny, Carol Alnutt, and Paul (Karen) Nabozny. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Amanda (Patrick) McGann, David (Lauren) Wattenmaker, Shawn Gray, Adam (Meghan) Gray, Michael (Anna) Nabozny, Peter (Lindsay) Nabozny, Eric (Pia) Nabozny, Julie (Stephan) Moessner, Christopher (Nicole) Alnutt, Elizabeth (Mark) Banick; and 17 great-grandchildren, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as Mom/Gram/Meli/GG/and Aunt Amelia, she had a beautiful smile and great sense of humor and was so loved by so many. Family was always the center of her life. She savored spending time with her family and seeing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. She held a special fondness for Ogunquit, Maine, where she and John honeymooned in 1951, and continued to visit regularly over the years.
She had many lifelong friends and enjoyed time and phone conversations with them. Amelia enjoyed reading the newspaper and doing the crossword puzzle every day and followed the news and politics closely. A talented cook, Amelia delighted in preparing elaborate holiday meals and special treats for her children and grandchildren. Her golabki, coleslaw, and pepperoni sandwich recipes will live down through the ages, though no one will ever make them nearly as good as her.
Her family feels blessed that her 97 years afforded them so much time to spend with her and are grateful that until her final days she was able to talk with them and ask about what was going on in their lives.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the many dedicated caregivers within St. Peter's Health Partners who provided care to Amelia over the years.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Amelia's family on Monday, April 21, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at the Raymond Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook St., Valatie, N.Y., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m., at St. John The Baptist Church, Valatie, N.Y. Burial will follow in the Kinderhook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you engage in a random act of kindness, or make a contribution to St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie, City of Rensselaer Fire Department, 62 Washington St., Rensselaer, N.Y., or the Samaritan School of Nursing in her memory.
