Amy Jean Brown, 82, passed away on August 13, 2024, in Ann Arbor, MI after a prolonged
illness.
Amy was born on November 9, 1941, to Dale Dix Brown and Alice Mildred (DeWitt) Brown in
Muskegon, MI. Amy maintained her permanent home in Osseo, Michigan.
After Amy graduated from Camden Frontier High School in 1959, she pursued a degree in
education at the University of Michigan. Amy spent two years in the newly created Peace
Corps, primarily in Pakistan following college.
Amy's teaching career took her from Michigan to Florida and Brazil. After retiring from
teaching, Amy got involved in local politics and served as a Hillsdale County
Commissioner for several years.
Amy enjoyed swimming and tennis. She also followed professional tennis with a passion. She
was an avid Michigan Wolverine and made sure that her Wolverine gear was always up to date.
She and her cousin looked forward to the football season and beating MSU and OSU!
Travel got in Amy's blood during her Peace Corps years and teaching in Brazil. She enjoyed
traveling with friends but was also willing to head out on her own sometimes. In recent years she
made a couple of trips to Italy. She took a cruise from Morocco through the Canary Islands and
on to Spain. She went all by herself on a whale-watching adventure. She also traveled back to
Southeast Asia with a dear friend a few years ago.
Amy was predeceased by her father and mother, and a niece and great niece. She is survived
by her brother Glen Brown (Pat Bromberek), two sisters, Margaret Shuman (Joe Sandahl) and
Elaine Vaughn (Ron), several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
A celebration of life will follow later this fall.
