Amy Ann Vedin, the daughter of Don and Judy (Backlund) Gohl, was born on January 11, 1970, in Sioux Falls, SD. She passed away suddenly of health complications on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 55. A beacon of passion and determination, Amy's journey through life was marked by her tenacity and unwavering spirit.

Amy was born and raised in Sioux Falls. Her medical journey started almost immediately after birth. From hydrocephalus to a broken leg, to open heart surgeries in her 20s, and hundreds of other doctor visits, these complications fueled her determination. Amy thoroughly enjoyed touting her “oldest child” status over her two younger brothers for their entire lives. And we know that she appreciated all the love that her parents poured into her throughout her life. Amy graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1988. She loved her time there, where she was active in choir, the newspaper staff, and was a manager for the wrestling team. She graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of South Dakota (USD) with degrees in Criminal Justice and Sports Management. Following her education, Amy held various positions in Sioux Falls, including roles in childcare and retail. Most recently, Amy dedicated herself to a career in customer service for a call center.

Amy’s life revolved around her three main loves — her son, her husband, and her passion for the sport of hockey. Not surprisingly, it was at a Sioux City Musketeers hockey game where she met the Zamboni driver and love of her life, Ronald Dean "Dino" Vedin. Amy and Dean were married on November 19, 2004. Together, they celebrated the joys of parenthood with the birth of their son, Ronnie, on October 16, 2006. Amy treasured her family deeply, and the memories created during this time were among her proudest achievements. She is remembered lovingly as a devoted mother and a fiercely loyal partner. Amy and Ronnie were crushed by Dino’s passing of ALS this past March, followed by Amy’s father’s death in May.

Besides her family, Amy’s greatest love was the Sioux City Musketeers community. She rarely missed a home game and was genuinely appreciative of the friendships and memories she made with the Musketeers family. For years, it was truly a family affair, with Amy cheering on the Muskies in the stands, Dean driving the Zamboni, and Ronnie broadcasting games on the internet.

In her leisure, Amy found solace in reading, indulging in thrilling crime shows, enjoying meals out, and engaging in the art of cross-stitching. She and Dino were also avid collectors of just about everything! Her uncanny memory allowed her to retain countless cherished moments, crafting a rich tapestry of experiences that she carried through her life. Amy’s faith had a significant impact on her life. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City for many years. She truly valued the faith community of the Catholic school system that has embraced and cared for their family throughout the years. She was especially thankful for the staff, teachers and counselors at Heelan High School for the immeasurable amount of love that they have poured into Ronnie.

Amy is survived by her son, Ronnie of Sioux City; her mother, Judy Gohl of Sioux Falls; and two brothers, Gregg (JJ) Gohl and Eric (Pam) Gohl, all of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by Dino’s children and granddaughter, five nieces and nephews – Gage Gohl, Carson Gohl, Drew Gohl, Cate Gohl & Lauryn Gohl, and a host of other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Dean "Dino" Vedin; her father, Don Gohl; and an infant son, Ronald Tyson Vedin.

A visitation/service for both Amy & Dino will be held on Tuesday, February 25 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, IA) with a prayer service starting at 6:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been created in Ronnie’s name to assist with his future expenses & educational costs. You can give online at: paypal.me/vedinmemorialfund or make check payable to: Vedin Memorial Fund, 2222 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
