Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Jan. 20, 2026.
Amy Michele Harkreader was born on February 4, 1980, to Stan and Betty Newton in
Ketchikan, Alaska. She went home to her Heavenly Father, fully healed and made whole, on January 11, 2026, surrounded by her family and best friend at her home in
Edmond, Oklahoma.
Amy and her family moved from Ketchikan to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire when she was almost three years old. Her time in New Hampshire was filled with deep relationships and lifelong memories with her family, especially her cousins Nate and Jonathan Myles and her Uncle Corby and Aunt Eleanor Myles. In 1991, Amy moved to Enid, Oklahoma with her mom and sister, Kelsey. This move was the first of many that showed one of Amy's gifts, making life-long friendships. She would make new and deep friendships in Enid, several of whom visited her in her final days. Amy's middle school and high school years were filled with swimming competitions, soccer games, student clubs and hanging out with friends, especially "The Zoo".
After graduating from Enid High School, Amy attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she graduated with an early childhood education degree in 2003. This led Amy to her role as a teacher at Banner Primary School in El Reno, Oklahoma.
Amy met the love of her life, Andy Harkreader, in Enid in 2001. After three years of falling in love they were married in 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma. Andy and Amy loved, adored, and served each other well. Andy's role as an Air Force pilot took them to several places during their marriage. They lived in Moore, Oklahoma; Okinawa, Japan; Columbus, Mississippi; and
Edmond, Oklahoma. Okinawa, from 2005 to 2008, was an especially meaningful time for Andy and Amy. Deep relationships were built and Amy met her best friend, Courtney Humphrey. Their time in Okinawa ended with the birth of their daughter, Sydnee, who was born two weeks before they moved back to Oklahoma.
The family continued growing with the birth of two sons, Tavin (2010) and Jaxton (2011). Amy was an intentional, caring, fun-spirited and compassionate mother. She thrived in her motherhood role and cared for her home well, including their two dogs, Bella and Lexie. Amy and Andy homeschooled their children and Amy was a beloved teacher and friend at Ignite Homeschool Co-op.
Amy's six-year battle with cancer included so many thoughtful care takers at Integris Health. The family would like to especially thank infusion nurses Deondra Brennan and Kari Stuckey at Integris Cancer Institute. These ladies helped Amy look forward to her infusions and their smiles and kind words were light during dark times.
Amy is survived by her husband Andy Harkreader, daughter Sydnee, and sons Tavin and Jaxton of Edmond; mother Betty Newton of Enid; father Stan Newton of Hebron, New Hampshire; sisters Kristi Madison, Heather Newton, Kelsey Klaassen, Brittany Newton and Cailey Monahan; and many other beloved extended family members.
We will always remember her smile, laughter and the way she could light up a room with joy. We rejoice that Amy is fully healed with her Heavenly Father.
The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 22nd at 1:00 pm at Frontline Church (1700 S. Bryant Ave,
Edmond, OK). Amy's request for this time was to ask everyone to show up in bright colors!
