Amy Heller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home - Northwest Highway on Nov. 29, 2025.
Amy Groves Heller (1967-2025)
The Reverend Amy Groves Heller, 58, of Addison, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on November 24.
Amy was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on August 24, 1967, to Donald and Barbara Groves and was a loyal Red Sox fan her whole life. She went on to become a beloved priest and chaplain, making a deep impact on the lives of countless parishioners and students. She grew up in Auburn, Massachusetts. Amy graduated from Colgate University in 1989, majoring in religious studies. In 1994, she graduated with a master's degree from Yale Divinity School. At Yale, she met her husband of 32 years, Roy L. Heller; they were married on November 20, 1993. They had two children, Noah J. Heller and Anne R. Heller.
Amy had a passion for serving and teaching which led her to a vocation as a priest and chaplain. She served at St. Thomas Day School in New Haven, Connecticut for four years, where her passion for meeting the challenges of educating the next generation began. After moving to Dallas in 1999, she was ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church in 2004. Subsequently, she served on the staffs of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, the Church of the Ascension, and the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration. She also worked as a chaplain for Camp O-AT-KA in Sebago, Maine, for many years. Her heart, however, was particularly drawn toward school chaplaincy. She served at the Parish Episcopal School for six years and the Episcopal School of Dallas for seven years.
Amy is remembered by countless students and colleagues as a caring influence who could be relied on in periods of transition and uncertainty to provide wisdom and stability. When asked what her favorite ages were to teach, her consistent reply was, "All of them! Kindergarten through twelfth grade!" Whether leading worship in the chapel or creatively teaching a lesson in the classroom, Mother Amy's influence continues to be felt and known to the hundreds of students and staff members who were privileged to know her.
Amy's passion for serving and teaching was only surpassed by her fierce and unwavering devotion to her family. Her wisdom, affection for, and commitment to her family was manifested in so many ways. Whatever success her husband or children had was both celebrated by her and was largely built upon the bedrock of her encouragement and dedication to them. She will be greatly, greatly missed.
Amy was preceded in death by her grandparents George James and Alice (Critchley) Groves and Henry and Olliemay (Walters) Burnett; her younger sister, Sally Anne Groves; and her older brother, Jeffrey James Groves. She is survived by her husband Roy L. Heller; her children, Noah James Heller and Anne Rebekah Heller; her sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca Groves Carr and Peter R. Carr; five nieces and nephews; and her parents, Donald and Barbara (Burnett) Groves.
A funeral service will occur at 2:00 PM on December 13, 2025, at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Dallas; the service will be livestreamed and will be accessible at www.transfiguration.net/funerals. A service of interment will occur at a later date in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Donations in her name may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Texas Oncology, Camp O-AT-KA in Sebago, Maine, or any arts organization of your choice.
