A livestream for the burial will be available below. Due to the cemetery's rural location, there is a possibility of weak connection during the livestream. If this happens or you are not able to watch the service at the time it is live, a recording of the service will be available shortly afterwards.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N Fourth St., Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Amy Emelia Larsen (Haugan), 42, loving mother of three and beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt and friend, was taken from us in a tragic airplane accident on Sunday, October 1, 2023.  

Amy was born on May 30, 1981, to Shelly (Elvick) and Duane Haugan. She was raised and educated in her hometown of Mohall, North Dakota.  Amy welcomed her son, Dylan Thomas Stevens, in 1998. She was a wonderful mother, who was always there when her son needed her.  After graduating from high school in 1999, she continued her education at Minot State University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in addiction studies.

Amy’s life took an unexpectedly, beautiful turn on a fateful night during her college days. She got locked out of her apartment and made a phone call for somebody to come help unlock her apartment. That’s when Doug Larsen showed up! From there, they began their relationship and spent many years together. On March 17, 2003, Doug and Amy got married in Bismarck, North Dakota. And Amy’s motherhood journey continued when they welcomed their sons, Christian in 2011 and Everett in 2015. As a mother, she was kind, caring, full of laughter and immense love for her boys. There are no words or boy mom quotes that can fully express Amy’s ultimate affection and devotion she held for her boys. 

After college, Amy began her career at West Central Human Services in Bismarck. Her dedication to helping others navigate the challenges of addiction was unparalleled, as she assisted those in need with empathy and understanding. Amy's support and genuine care touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered fondly. She was an excellent addiction counselor.

Together, Amy and Doug embarked on numerous exciting business adventures, including APEX Builders, Peterson Properties, and Peterson Hospitality. Doug and Amy were members of the Bismarck-Mandan Home Builders Association (BMHBA) since 2003 with Amy serving as the Director of the BMHBA from 2020-22. Amy remained active in many other organizations, including serving on the parade of homes and the events committee. She was a volunteer for Professional Women for the Building Council and actively supported and contributed to the F5 Project.

Above all else, Amy and Doug were true partners in life and business. When Doug was deployed in the military, Amy kept things moving and in order at home. She was incredibly hard working. Amy was never afraid to put in the extra hours of work if it meant getting projects done. She was a big piece of making everything in their business and family life work.

Amy's vibrant spirit was infectious. She had a smile that could light up any room and a laugh that was music to our ears. Together, Amy and Doug shared a similar sense of humor. On top of this – they shared a lot of sarcasm!  Amy loved music, specifically Pink, Jimmy Buffett and 90’s.  She also enjoyed beach vacations and caring for her two cats, Baby Kitty and Rusty, often referring to herself as the crazy cat lady. Selflessness and generosity were two traits that highlighted her personality.  Amy touched the lives of so many people. She will be remembered always.

Amy is survived by her son, Dylan Stevens, Mandan; her mother, Shelly Haugan, Mandan; siblings, Chantel (Boyd) Southam, Sherwood, and their children, Cole, Adam, and Emma; brother, Mike (Julie) Johnson, Bismarck, and their children, Aiden and Owen; brother, Chris (Ann) Johnson, Granville, Ohio, and their children, Tim, Julianna, Gideon, and Poly; aunt, Phyllis Foster, Vancouver, WA; uncle Charles Barton, Grapevine, Texas; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Duane Haugan; nephew, Keenan Hoglund; maternal grandparents, Thomas Elvick and Bob and Rae Harvey; paternal grandparents, Emelia and Henry Haugan.

May she rest in eternal peace with her husband, Douglas, and two children, Christian and Everett.
