Amy Streeter

Amy Streeter was received by the angels into eternal peace on June 7, 2015 after being under hospice care in her home for several days because of congestive heart failure. Amy was born to Paul and Elfreida Anderson in Manor, Texas on May 23, 1920. She graduated from Manor High school in 1939 and entered Seton School of Nursing, which was affiliated with both the University of Texas and St. Edwards University in Austin. Amy earned her diploma as an RN in 1942 and entered the Army Nurse Corps; however, before she was to report for active duty she met the love of the life, Vernon Streeter. They were married in 1942 and she became a practicing nurse in private life while Vernon was deployed to the European theatre of war as a member of the U.S. Army. Upon returning to the states at the conclusion of World War II, they made their civilian home in Ohio, along with their two sons, Richard and Larry. During the Korean conflict, Vernon re-entered the army and was stationed in Austin, Texas where they remained for the rest of their lives. Amy was very involved with her two sons in their education, music, and sports endeavors, while still being fully employed in the nursing profession as co-owner and administrator at a number of elder care facilities in the Austin area. Amy was the initial Director of Nurses and Administrator at Shoal Creek Hospital in Austin. Amy's career also included being Supervisor of the Medical-Surgical Unit at the Austin State Hospital. She was actively engaged in nursing for 52 years. Amy was pre-deceased in death by her husband of 65 years, Vern Streeter; her son, Larry Streeter; her parents, Paul and Elfreida Anderson; her brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Marylee Anderson; and sister and brother-in-law, Effie and Bruce Thomas. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lucille Streeter of Washington D.C.; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Streeter of Blackfoot, Idaho; her grandchildren, Thomas Clayton Streeter of Dallas, Erin and Jeffrey Wells of Blackfoot, Idaho, Jennifer and Christopher O'Neal of Orem Utah; and her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Leroy Tschatschula of Houston, Texas. Five great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews mourn her death. Amy was amazingly independent and maintained her home and financial affairs even at the age of 95, and was always looking forward to living longer because of the things "she still wanted to do". Amy's family wishes to acknowledge the faithful acts of kindness of Leon Ashbrook and Mike Marshall during the last years of her life. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, North Lamar. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. in Austin. Pallbearers will be: Steve Shelton, Chris O'Neal, Jeffrey Wells, Lee Roy Anderson, Terrance Tschatschula, Thomas Streeter, and Keldon Powers. Memorial contributions may be made to Austin Hospice, the National Federation of the Blind, or to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
