Amy Wallace Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McClam Funeral Home - New Haven on Feb. 25, 2026.
Amy (Jerry) Wallace was born on May 1, 1960, in Darlington, SC to the late Doretha Johnson Jerry and Elijah Jerry Jr.

In her early life she was member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized, served as a member of the Young Adult Choir, Young Women's Axillary (YWA) and various other church ministries.

Amy attended St. John High School of Darlington South Carolina where she graduated in 1978. After high school she was employed by Leggs Hosiery and other manufacturing companies in her area.

In 1988 she met the love or her life! James took the country girl out of the south and headed to the Connecticut!

Amy worked for Winkle Bus Company of West Haven, CT for over 30 years. She was known as "Mrs. Amy" to everyone in the city. Her love for children went beyond her job, she was a devoted foster parent for many years. Amy was a source of love and warmth to all of her "Kids"

Amy later joined Bethel African Methodist Church in 1996, and became an active member of the stewardess board, Voices of mercy choir, pastors aid and bereavement committee.

Amy's kindness, generosity and gentle nature touched the lives of many. She enjoyed traveling and cooking and making sure that everyone around her felt infinite love.

Amy was known for her inviting spirit she wanted to feed the city from her cookouts to the Citywide block parties attended every year by the former Mayor of West Haven and her friend Richard Boyer. Her home was not only a haven for many, but her home served as the "hangout spot" for the kids in her neighborhood. Rodeny Street of West Haven was where her famous Sunday dinners fed many and filled the hearts and tummies of all with love. She had love for everyone and made sure they felt like family.

In 2005 Amy graduated from Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT with her Medical Billing and Terminology Certificate

Amy spent her life helping others and making sure everyone felt whole. Amy was an dedicate advocate for Colon Cancer Survivors, she made it her mission to encourage and uplift those that she encountered during her visits to the Smilow Cancer Center hospitals and clinics. She often prayed with others and read scriptures.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her sister Lila Jean Jerry, Brother Dennis Jerry Sr, and Grandmother Elester Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Jacobee Jerry (Tamika) Leonard Franklin, and Ashley Franklin; grandchildren, Tatiana Franklin, Olivia Franklin, NyAshia Franklin and Niah Franklin; Siblings, Eliza (James) Robinson, Cathy Jerry, Charles (Lurline) Jerry, Ralph (Betty) Jerry, Jerry (Brenda) Goodson; and a host of BONUS children, BONUS grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives and close friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
