Andrea left us this date after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. Andrea was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Kathy (2007) and her adoring parents, Margaret and Andrew Steen (1992).
Andrea, a long-time resident of Orinda, was a native of Berkeley; she attended Holy Names High School in Oakland and obtained undergraduate and Master's degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. She was a long-term, valued employee of the Walnut Creek and San Leandro Police Departments. Upon her retirement, she coached reading programs for children and English as a second language for adults.
Andrea was a beautiful person in all senses of the word. She was extremely intelligent and witty, a gracious, elegant and lavish hostess to her many friends and family members. Always ready with a tossed-aside bon mot, her humor was never barbed or harsh – she took a generous and embracing attitude toward everyone and everything in the world.
Andrea and her husband of over 50 years, David, were a devoted couple who did almost everything together. They cooked together, took language classes together and traveled extensively together to many exotic locales. Perhaps their most exciting journey was the sailing trip they took on their honeymoon, piloting the 41 foot sloop Tigrero from Hawaii to San Francisco alone, eating canned tuna and plums and enduring seasickness together.
Our world is much dimmer without her glowing presence; lights will never shine quite as brightly again.
Andrea is survived by her loving husband David, her very loved cat Jenny Linsky, aka "BooBoo", her beloved children Andrew, Margret (Brett) and Michael (Joan), her devoted daughter-in-law Suzette, and her adored grandchildren, Mitchell, Molly, John, Matthew and Daniel, as well as her loving sister-in-law and nieces, Catherine, Dana and Julie, along with many friends and family members.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00PM, at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Avenue, Walnut Creek.
