Andrew "Andy" DeVries, age 71, of Pomona Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born on February 1, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, Andy was one of nine children of Gerrit and Anna DeVries. He is survived by his siblings Jan (Rich), Frank (Anne), Gary (Jennet), and Fran.
Andy proudly served his country as a decorated Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after a distinguished career that included service during the Gulf War. His unwavering dedication to his country, comrades, and duty reflected his deep commitment to honor and service.
Beyond his military achievements, Andy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 22 years, Dale. Together, they shared a passion for traveling, especially taking cruises that allowed them to explore the world and create cherished memories.
A proud father and grandfather, Andy's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind a loving legacy in their eleven children: Jenelle Pratt (Brian), Robert DeVries (preceded in death), Autumn Herod, Alicia Bodine, Trisha Keen (Tom), Erin Davis, Nicole Davis, Rebecca Middleton (Travis), Destiny Schulingkamp, Luke Schulingkamp, and Seth DeVries. He was adored by his 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who brought immense pride and joy to his life.
Andy's faith was a cornerstone of his life. A longtime servant of his church, he was always willing to lend a hand, a kind word, or a helping heart. His selflessness, loyalty, and humor endeared him to all who knew him.
Andy's presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy of love, courage, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Grace Fellowship in Palatka, Florida, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral and Cremation.
The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/heritagefuneralandcremation
