Andrew J. "Drew" Dhabalt, 55, of Springfield, died at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at his home.
He was born on May 1, 1966, in Park Forest, IL, the son of Richard E. "Dick" and Kathleen (Dooley) Dhabalt. Drew married Melanie J. Gidney on June 25, 1988, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Springfield.
Drew graduated from Griffin High School and later Lincoln Land Community College, where he earned his associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to become an electrical lineman and foreman at CWLP. Drew was a member of the Elk's Club, Anchor Boat Club and the Local IBEW 193. Drew attended Church of the Little Flower where he volunteered his time at the school and was very active in the Little Flower Men's Club, hardly missing a fish fry. He also volunteered his time working in the SHG concession stand and was the recent recipient of the Concessionaire Extraordinaire award. In 2019, Drew received the Robert G. Gibson Community Services award. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who loved woodworking, listening to Sports Radio 1450, and enjoying a cold Busch beer. Drew will forever be known as a hardworking, good-time-loving, life of the party type of guy who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Dhabalt; father-in-law, Jack Gidney; and uncle, Larry Dhabalt.
Drew is survived by his wife, Melanie; father, Richard "Dick" Dhabalt of Springfield; son, Matt Dhabalt of Springfield; daughters, Emily (Brock) Pries of Nashville, TN and Amy Dhabalt of Springfield; brothers, Daniel B. and Richard J. "Rick" (Sheri) Dhabalt, both of Springfield; sisters, Deborah McCoy of Santa Maria, CA and Victoria Compton of Springfield; mother-in-law, Marjorie (Gary) McGlasson of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Joni (Larry) Buchanan, Bonnie (Jeff) Balko, and Nancy (Jim) Unruh; aunt, Sue Dhabalt; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Church of the Little Flower, with Rev. Allen M. Kemme and Rev. Thaddeus Adukus, concelebrants.
Illinois COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
A private family inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
