Andrew "Andy" Metcalf, passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his home in Douds, Iowa. Born on November 22, 1953, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Warren and Vivian (Rhoda) Metcalf. Andy's life was one marked by dedication, service, and the love of his close-knit family.
Andy spent his formative years in Douds and proudly graduated from Cardinal High School in Eldon in 1972. Andy married his beloved wife, Debora Steele, on March 5, 1972, in Douds--a union that was blessed with love, partnership, and beautiful memories. He answered the call of duty by joining the United States Air Force, where he served as a Sergeant from 1975 to 1978. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and the values he held dear.
In 1978, Andy began a fulfilling career at Rockwell, where he worked until 1997. His industrious spirit led him to John Deere in Ottumwa, where he worked as a Journeyman Electrician until his well-deserved retirement in 2024. Andy's work ethic and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers.
Throughout his life, Andy was a passionate and lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, advocating for the rights and responsibilities of gun ownership. His steadfast beliefs and his commitment to the principles he held dear were an integral part of who he was.
Andy's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Debora, and their children: David Metcalf (Brandie) of Douds, Andrew Metcalf (Dawn) of St Charles, Iowa, and Hannah Metcalf of Libertyville, his brothers, John Metcalf (Margie), Matt Metcalf (Charolette), Steve Metcalf (Rhonda), and his sister, Juanita Newborn. His grandchildren--Jaclyn, Courtney, Tyrone, CarryE, Daniel, Tory, Jess and Taten, his great-grandchildren Avery, Colt, Phoenix, and Priscilla--will miss their grandfather's wisdom, humor, and the warmth of his love.
Preceding Andy in death were his parents, Warren and Vivian, his son, Daniel Metcalf, his sister, Pat Chute, and his brothers, William "Bill" and Simon Metcalf.
A funeral service to honor the life of Andy will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 18, 2025 at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Pastor Don Combs officiating.
